Hi
Guys

I have a query regarding change of name .. In India usually a fathers name is added in as a middle name .
In most of my husbands documents the name is as Ajay Roshan Singh where Roshan is his fathers name, however on the passport his name is Ajay Singh. Is this considered as a change of name ? do we need to have an affidavit for the same ? or do we need to mention anything in the LOE ?

Humm interesting ....

This is a bit confusing because the application asks to include the first and the last name

Then in that case is this the correct course of action :
Put the name as per passport as Ajay Singh
Say Yes to change of name for him
Get an Affidavit that says that Ajay Roshan Singh and Ajay Singh are the same person and the later name is the truncated name of Ajay Roshan Singh as printed in the passport.
Is this correct ?

Now in my case with the change of name:
I have already created an Affidavit which has mentioned my change of name after marriage to Kavita Ajay Singh
however in my passport my name is Kavita Singh.
Do I add another change under my previous names as Kavita Ajay Singh, and add another affidavit which says that Kavita Ajay Singh and Kavita Singh are the same person and the later name is the truncated name of Kavita Ajay Singh as printed in the passport.
Will this work in my case too ?

Ok...The way i see it is this.

First Middle Last
James Arthur Smith

Birth certificate name: James Arthur Smith
Passport name: James Arthur Father Smith
Name on degree: James Arthur Smith
Letter from boss: James Smith
Letter from different boss: J A Smith

For here you would likely say yes to having another name, but the one and the same name would only be for James Arthur Smith and James Arthur Father Smith because there's a name addition here.

It's common to have your middle name ignored in documents, it doesn't mean you have a different name. Using just initials is also not a variation.

Hope this helps.

So just mentioning in an LOE that the name in the passport (James Smith) is a truncated name of (James Arthur Smith ) do ?

I agree that its common to ignore the middle name in documents but what got me all thinking was this link
http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/quick-question-if-some-can-help-regarding-cic-query-t431582.0.html

I know its not related to PR application but still it was about a query that the canadian passport office raised for the applicant .

I'm not 100% familiar with this but i would definitely say yes to having a different name and upload a letter saying your passport features your father's name, but it isn't part of your name (maybe upload your birth certificate too?).

Sorry :s

Get an affidavit stating that all the names are the same person.

I dont have a middle name and never added my father's name to any of my documents. My wife has a middle name and wherever, it said fathers name in India, she added her own middle name as fathers name. She used to get questioned why her father had a feminine sounding name. Now I thank my stars we dont have these issues.

Thanks for the reply

So do i follow the following steps then as I posted above ?

Do as above for your husband. for your case, get a single affidavit which will mention all your names that you have used so far and your current name as per passport

I am going to assume that you and your husband have Indian passports.

If that is the case then your name on the first page of the passport will not have father / husbands name as middle name as the fathers and husbands name are on the last page of the passport.

The front of the passport is Surname and Given Name (s). Ajay is your husbands given name and Kavita is your given name.

IMO, your husbands name should be Ajay Singh and your name as Kavita Singh as mentioned in your passport. Since the rest of the documents like your employers references, education and bank letters have the husband / fathers name as middle name, get an affidavit to say that it is all the same person as is mentioned on the passport.
