Hi All,

When I created my Express Entry profile (August 24,2018), I declared I was single because at the time I was living with my boyfriend for less than a year (6 months). I got ITA on October 15,2018 and I will be submitting my application before December 15,2018. By December 15,2018 I would have been living with my boyfriend for 10 months(still less than a year). This means that my marital status will change from single to common law, two months after submitting my application.

I believe I should I include a letter with my application, explaining that my marital status is going to change soon, and attach a copy of my boyfriends's birth certificate (since he is a Canadian citizen). Right now my marital status is locked in my application, and I cannot change it.
Is it better to explain my situation right now while sending my application rather than trying to contact immigration two months later, and notifying my change of status at that time?

What else can I do or send?

Please advise,

Thanks.

Hi

No point in including a letter about a future marital status change. Just update IRCC when your status actually changes. It won't be an issue for the app.

Thanks for your response.
I forgot to mention that I have a my own savings account (with enough funds) and also a joint bank account with my boyfriend. Both accounts are listed in the bank letter that I am required to submit as part of the documents check list. I was not sure if IRCC will question my single status because I have a bank account with my boyfriend( open 8 months ago ), and his name is in there too. What do you think?

You are overthinking things. if they ask you can explain. Just update when you reach common law.

No, simply update IRCC when your status changes in February. It won't matter much one way or the other, since he is Canadian.
