Change of marital status after receiving landing paper

Hi everyone,

I am a Canadian citizen and I married my wife in Canada during her CEC application in March. We both currently live in Canada. We were not aware at the time that we have to inform CIC about the change of status since I am already a Canadian citizen. In October when we found out that this could be viewed as a misrepresentation, we immediately informed CIC by email and also sent them a copy of the marriage certificate and copies of my passport. A few days after that, she received her landing paper with the marital status as "single". We have consulted a lawyer and he told us it's not a big issue but just have to wait for the new landing paper to be issue. However, when we phone CIC, the agent said we could bring the marriage certificate to landing and have it changed there.

Should we wait for the new landing paper with the correct marital status to arrive first then go landing ?

or should we go landing now with the marriage certificate and have the status changed at the port of entry?

Any comments are greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

If you are both now in Canada, I assume your spouse plans to "flagpole", i.e. exit Canada and re-enter soon to effect the official landing.

If you live near the U.S. border, you (the Canadian) could exit and re-enter Canada, show the landing paper and the new marriage certificate to the border officer, and ask whether this documentation would be sufficient or you should wait for an amended landing paper.

If the single-status landing paper with certificate is OK, go back to Canada, and exit again with your spouse, documents in hand, and effect the landing.

Ask at the same time whether it is necessary to officially enter the USA for this purpose. If not, green light. If yes, then spouse needs a US visa.

Sorry to bring back this old thread, but I just meet the same problem as blitz888. Anyone can shed some light on this issue?

Thanks a lot.
