Change in TRV outside Canada

Hello,

My wife is living in India now. She has applied for open work permit under spousal sponsorship Canada. Her application is still under process. In her passport, She has her father's name in given name like my wife's name + her father name. but now she wants to change her given name having my name (Husband's name) instead of her father's name on her Indian passport. So If she apply for changes in her passport then she will get new passport with new passport number and her current passport will be cancelled, I think. And she has applied to CIC based on her current passport.

Can anyone tell me What should I do? Should She apply for changes on her passport before approval of an application? or If she does not apply for changes to passport and if she got approval for her visa then will she able to change given name on TRV document?? What should she do and When andHow?

Hi,

It's not mandatory to change from maiden to married name. It's personal choice though.

Your wife will be applying for a 're-issue' of her passport. She'll need to submit the marriage certificate + an affidavit for the name change. The new passport will have a different number. I'm not too sure whether or not she can apply under Tatkaal to get a new passport re-issued within a week.

You'll need to inform IRCC (through a Case Specific Enquiry) about the change in her name + later when the new passport is issued.

If she decides not to get the passport re-issued, she can travel on the TRV (maiden name) + marriage certificate. No problems with that

When you say she "applied for an open work permit under spousal sponsorship", do you mean that you are a Canadian citizen/PR and have sponsored her for PR?
