Change citizenship before PR landing

Hi guys,

I'm in an extremely confusing situation and I don't know what is the best option for me.

Here's the recap of my situation:

- Currently in the EU; received a COPR with a landing visa valid until August.
- Visa printed on passport A with citizenship A (country Ukraine).
- I have been approved for the EU citizenship B of country B and have to do the citizenship oath within next 6 months (within October). The country B allows dual citizenship, country A is vague and contradictory, the law doesn't recognize dual citizenship but there is no obligation to surrender the Ukrainian citizenship upon acquisition of another.
- After I do the citizenship oath, I will have to surrender my EU PR card and will recieve a European passport.

My issue is:
- Do I have to notify the CIC of the fact that I'm getting a new citizenship?
- If I receive citizenship B with a new passport B, can I still travel to Canada on a passport A where my visa is printed?
- Is there any way to print a new COPR on my new passport B?
- If I fly to Canada on passport A and do the landing now in Canada and won't receive a PR in time before I will have to fly back to country B to do the oath, how can I then come back to Canada? Will they print a travel document on my new B passport?
- If I fly to Canada after I receive passport B, can I exit the EU on my passport B (because I need a visa/permit of stay to exit out of Schengen area and my current pr card will be taken after I get citizenship B) and enter Canada on passport A?

I'm extremely confused and don't know what's the best option for me.

Thanks in advance!

Wow! That's a proper situation!

If you do the oath of citizenship and receive a new passport then you will need to inform CIC that you are a citizen of another country and provide them with a copy of your new passport. However, if you do not have to surrender the passport that your COPR has been printed on then, if possible, you may be better landing in Canada soon, waiting for your PR card to arrive and then travel to do your oath of citizenship before October. This would negate the need for a travel document to be issued if you land then leave before you get your PR card.

I know eh? ???

My head is spinning actually as I don't know what is the best choice for me here. I was planning to make the move to Canada over summer, as I'm currently finishing working in country B and wanted to finish some business here before the permanent move to Canada.

I've talked to country B representatives and although I need to do the oath within next 6 months, they highly advice against doing it last minute as the oath will be arranged through a city mayor who is available for the oath only a couple of times per month, so according to them I should do the oath at the latest in August, because in September it's too risky..

Hi, santaita7 how did it work?
I have quite similar situation.
I have got my COPR with the deadline as July. But there is a chance that I may change my citizenship (Getting German citizenship).
Will it create any trouble in my current CoPR? I do not want to lose my CoPR but at the same time want to use this opportunity to get German passport.

I highly appreciate your guidance!

Many thanks
