Hi everyone,

Here's my situation. I am from Philippines and went to Malaysia to take my Masters with a financial aid. I was supposed to take PhD afterwards but support was reduced so I opted for Lecturing job instead (Teaching has been my career back in Philippines), simply because I want to have international work experience that will boost my credentials and save money to apply for PhD abroad. I committed for 5 years (lesser years won't look good in my CV). Now that my 5 years is up, I have applied for a PhD program in Canada and hope to get admission soon.

Here's my question. Would it be better for me to apply for student permit here in Malaysia or should I return to my home country? To prove home ties, all of my family members are in Philippines and I have no relatives in Canada. My parents have properties there and my siblings are either working and studying there. I don't have properties, but only life insurance, that is because my money went to savings which I will use as funds for my relocation. My study plan indicates that I just wanna have PhD and then go back to the same university in Philippines where I taught before (but no invitation letter from them). I know I can easily get the job once I get a PhD from a reputable university in Canada. Also, my course is really technical that is why I chose to study abroad due to better facilities and more advance research.

Please advice. Urgent!

Thanks.

Hi everyone,

Just to give you update... I sent my applicaton to Singapore on May 13, 2012 (since applicants from KL should send it there.)
My application was returned after 1.5 weeks because the bank draft I did has excess payment ( I just thought of adding some dollars for service charge that could be deducted by the bank. But actually you just have to send an exact amount).

Two weeks later, June 13, I received my file again with medical instruction. It says that the medical result should be submitted to the Philippines CIC office.

My medical result reached their office on July 5, 2012.
Now waiting for the result....

you are very correct, I applied on Junec13,2012 at CHC Singapore and they emailed me to send the exact amount after 10 days which I did, because I wrongly sent draft of SGD165 instead of SGD164. did you show any assets in your name? because my cases has been decided yesterday that I don't have sufficient resources to pay my tuition fees, my travel history, and personal assets and financial status. pls reply, thanks

Hi,

I did show some personal assets in my home country. I have been in Malaysia for 8 years so I thought these documents could be my home ties. Also, all of my family members are in my home country, I've also attached their birth and residential certificates.

I have also been traveling to my home country once a year.

As for the finances, I only showed sufficient amount in the bank that could cover my airfare and 2 months stay because I was offered scholarship.
