Hi all,
I applied to study for an Associate of Science in computer science, and I was accepted. Before I pay the deposit and apply for the visa, I wanted to gauge the chances of visa refusal.
I graduated in 2014 with a BSc (honours) from a university in the UK in computer animation and visual effects. After that I went back to my home country where I was unable to find work in my field. I ended up working in tech support at a call centre for a few months. After that I had to quit as both my father and grandma fell very ill and I was their primary caretaker. During that time I was unemployed but started getting into programming through online courses.
I tried applying to jobs in software development but I was always refused on grounds that I don't have a related degree and I'm missing fundamentals. I even thought of doing an MSc in Germany, Canada or Netherlands. Most of them said I don't have the required prerequisites from my previous degree, so I wouldn't be accepted.
So I applied to study for an Associates so I can have the foundation knowledge I need. I might then try to apply for a MSc again, or maybe transfer to a university in Canada to finish working on a second bachelor's degree in computer science.
I do plan to return to my country after I'm done, and look for work there. Now I'm worried that because I already have a BSc I might get rejected from studying for an Associates. In my previous degree we did a bit of programming but we didn't cover fundamental topics related to computer science. My mother is going to support me financially and we have the required financial proof.
How worried should I be? Any advice? Thanks.
