So here's my situation
I'm from Venezuela and came to Canada in September 2010 under a student permit valid 8 months. Went to an english school, took my TOEFL test, applied for a degree at a college, got accepted, renewed my study permit (which was granted for 1 and a half year) and started studying at a canadian college from september 2011. After that period of time, I reapplied for a renewal and got accepted again, this time for almost 2 years (Jan 2013 - november 2014). Now here's the problem. Up until last fall (2013) I've been studying in school non-stop, didn't take a single semester off, passed all my courses etc etc; but last fall I only took one course, mid throughout the semester I decided that I didn't like my field of studying and decided to drop it and wanted to apply to another university under another program in Canada (a 4 year degree). Since November/December I've been in Canada studying on my own for my TOEFL (it expires every 2 years so I needed to take a new one in order to apply to university). I'm taking it this week. Supposing I pass it and I get a letter of acceptance to start in September in this other university, what are my chances of getting my extension on my student permit? I'm really concern they are going to refuse my application on 'Illegitimate student' grounds because I'm basically taking a year off studying, still staying in Canada (No work though, legal nor illegal I haven't worked a single time in Canada) and the last semester I took in college I wasn't even a full time student and I dropped it.
Do you think I need to add anything extra on my application like a letter explaining why I took a year off? Would they even bother reading something like that?
ALSO, I have a canadian boyfriend. We have been together 2 and a half years and living together for almost one year. He proposed to me that IF (and that's a really big "IF") my permit got refused, he could sponsor me. I rather get my student permit on my own (I just like feeling like I did it on my own merit) but IF It did get refused, can I stay in Canada and still study while I apply for this new application? Will they think my relationship is not genuine because I'm applying right after they refused my application?
