Hi,

My wife is planning to take a masters degree course in BC. I will be accompanying her.

I am a qualified Chartered Accountant and currently working with a US MNC in India.

- Will I be able to get an OWP based on her study permit?
- If yes, how easy/difficult is it to get the same?
- How much time would it take normally to get it?
- Should I apply for OWP from India before she starts her course. I dont want her study permit to be declined due to my OWP application.
- Would you advise that I apply for OWP after reaching Canada.

Thanks,

1. Yes, if her school is recognized.
2. Pretty simple, you apply on entry with her when she gets her study permit.
3. Note if you need a TRV (visitor visa) you need to apply for that when your spouse applies for her study permit.
4. You apply for the TRV, and if you get it, you apply for OWP on entry to Canada. But you are still going to have to apply for a TRV and she is going to have to show funds to maintain the 2 of you in Canada for a year.
