Hello

First time posting. I'm a U.S. Citizen. My PR Card expires in May 2020. Due to my mom's ongoing health issues in the states I will only just meet the residency obligation if I apply for renewal at that time. I've decided that the only thing I can do is remain in Canada ,try to find help for my mom, and apply for renewal when I've accumulated closer to 900 days. My question is whether or not I'm likely to receive the Residency questionnaire even though I'd be over the 730 days. I've read elsewhere that the government is sending out the questionnaire more and more to those who "cut it close" -- even those who are hundreds of days over the 730. this true?

Thx

Just want to clarify that your PR card expiry is not really relevant. To be in compliant with the RO you need to meet the 730 days 5 years from your landing date. If you don't meet the RO and are able to get into Canada you can remain in Canada until you accumulate over 730days. It is hard to predict who gets secondary review.

Thanks for responding. I do plan to stay in Canada until I have more than 730 days, but am really concerned about avoiding the hassle of being sent the Residency Determination by IRCC when I do finally apply. Would it be safe to apply at 800 days or do I need more than that? I've lived in Canada for decades and have never spent more than a few weeks out of Canada until the past five years, when my mother's health started worsening, so all of this is new to me. I plan on getting Canadian citizenship as soon as I can btw and wish I'd done so sooner.

If you have be back and forth a lot you may not be able to avoid secondary. There is no magical number. Over 800 days helps but if you have been going back and forth you might still get secondary.

Ok thanks. I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed.

I have another question and it refers to my trips to the U.S. I've tried the I-94 website but it shows no record of my transits to the states. I've tried to keep my own record of my travel history but there are a few gaps where I failed to take notes. How do I account for this when fill out the PR renewal form? Do I just say the info is correct to the best of my knowledge? Will CB have a record of the length of my stays in the U.S. etc? I'm starting to feel nervous about all this. I certainly don't want to make any false statements but I can't account for every trip, especially during 2015-16 when my mother was in and out of the hospital. It was a nightmare.
