Hello Friends,
Sometime back an email from an agent got me thinking of migrating to Canada. As I'm 48, I really did not think it was possible to get the points required. I'm an Accountant by profession and have done my bachelor's and master's in Commerce. I have also completed my ICWAI (equivalent to CMA). The agent calculated my points my points as follows and told that I would scrape through the 67 points required if I got the highest band for IELTS. I would then get:
My IELTS: 24
Spouse IELTS: 5
Work Experience:15
Post Graduation: 23
Age: 0
Total: 67
With a big smile, I travelled to my home (Kerala, India) ... I live in Kuwait and went about doing the paper work.
a) I had my bachelor's degree & transcripts (Bachelor of Commerce - 3 year full time course with Calicut University) sent to WES.
b) I had my master's degree & transcripts (Master of Commerce - 2 year full time course with Mahatma Gandhi University) sent to WES.
c) Ran around and got the PCC done for myself and family (although it was not required for my minor daughter).
d) Got my previous employer to issue a work certificate that included the job description, working hours, etc., as required by CIC (10 years).
e) Got my current employer's work certificate that included the job description, working hours, etc., as required by CIC (6.5 years as manager).
f) Attempted IELTS and achieved L:8.5, R:8.5, W:8, S:7.5. This being the highest band took me to the targeted 67.
Then bad luck struck!!!
WES evaluated my Bachelor of Commerce - 3 year course as equivalent to the Canadian Bachelor degree (3 years) &
my Master of Commerce - 2 year course as equivalent to the Canadian Bachelor degree (4 years)
Damn! With that second evaluation, my Master's no longer fetched me the 23 points required but only 21 points and I was down by 2 points or maybe 1 as I read somewhere here that two bachelor's will be equivalent to 22 points. Am frustrated! Not after all the work I did in this regard.
Spoke to the agent who told me that WES can sometimes be over enthusiastic in marking down evaluations. They can be unnecessarily strict and that as my university is one of the more renowned universities in India this should certainly not have happened.
Solution: Well, they suggest that I do all the dirty work and resubmit my degree and transcripts to CES or ICAS.
This is where you, my friend can help
As the topic suggest, which one would you go to if you were in my shoes? Which one tends to be slightly more lenient? Time is not an issue as even with loss of time, I can't lose any more on the points for age
Also, which of the 2 is easier to handle in terms of paper work?
Thanks for any input .... I'll then be back with more queries
Cheers!
