Certified Criminal Record Check

Hi guys,

I have received request to provide a certified criminal record check from Canada for myself from Buffalo.

Does it mean the normal criminal record check or the finger print version? I did send my Certified criminal record check from Canada to Buffalo when I submitted my application back in June 2011.

Do you think they are asking for an updated criminal record check or they want the finger print criminal record check? (it does not mention fingerprint in the email)

Anyone has experience? please share your thought.

Hi Molson,

There was no need to send a police clearance from Canada with your initial application, this is clearly stated in the instructions. CIC does name-based checks for all applicants.

If a name-based check does not come back clear (perhaps you share the same name with someone who has a criminal history), then CIC will ask you for a certified criminal record check - fingerprints are required, no alternative, so I have no idea what you sent before.

It will be much faster if you use a service that does electronic fingerprinting (e.g. Commissionaires).

Yeah it's the same link. It explaisn everything you need to know and yeah go to commosionaries. It takes less than a week and you will have your letter.

I made a stupid mistake, i gave my client ID insted of my application number and now I am thinking if this is gonna create any problem?
Any idea? I think they still should be able to locate my file with client ID? Right?

Hi - honestly don't know. They should be able to locate your file, but you never know. Might be a good idea to send them an email and let them know...

I actually went to Commissionaires this afternoon, the officer told me if i did fingerprinting with them, the fingerprinting will first go to Ottawa for verification and Ottawa will send a copy to me and I will have to mail the final result to Buffalo.

I thought they would be the one who is mailing to Buffalo VO? Are we allowed to mail out the fingerprints? Quite confusing with the info from the Commissionaires.

Any idea?

No, just go and ask them that you need to get a certified rcmp background check letter for your immigration case and then they will take your fingerprints and then there are two options. Either you can get that delivered to yourself and forward it to buffalo or you can get rcmp sent that directly to your VISA OFFICE. But make sure you give them the Visa application file number and then rcmp will print it on the form and the address whichever you prefer to give either yours or buffalo. Its persoanl preference.
