Certified copies required for all "copies" in the document check list ??

The document checklist asks for "copies" of many documents ( ex: Passports, civil documents, marriage certificates), is it required to get notarary public attestation for all the documents ?

Or is it the notarary certification required only when the copies are english translation of the originals ?
