Hi , I have a Certificate for Food Handling issued by Ontario's Ministry of Health and Long Term Care valid for 5 years and a qualification I need to get before handling a Cook position in all retirement homes. Can I use that to claim my points under Certificate of Qualification under Express Entry? It is worth 50pts. Please advise.

No. A certificate is for a trade like electrician which is usually college education plus years of apprenticeship.

Thanks for the response. I have a friend who did a certification exam in Primerica and she didn't go to any courses in Colleges. She claimed the 50 points and got her PR already last year. Cook is a skilled traded according to Cook - Skilled Trades Ontario . So I am just wondering
if the certifications I got from Ontario's Ministry of Health and Long Term Care count as well the same as my friend, for which I only attended training and pass the certification exam.

Cook is different. If you are licensed as a cook then yes. In the link you provided, you go through the Red Seal exam/certification as a cook. Food handling will not get you 50 points.

Thank you for the response. Per website in the Cook - Skilled Trades Ontario, this trade is not compulsory so if you pass this your name will not be in the Skilled Trades Ontario Public Register. Is not worth a try for the Food Handling Certificate to be declared. I was trained and supervised by a Dietary Manager and it was during COVID that they require only this certification to handle Cook position and not the Red Seal exam. Please advise.

Your can try. Isn’t the course one day? Good luck. For cooks, you need Red Seal for certification and 50 points.

You are not going to get 50 points for a one day training course that anyone can take.
I just updated my express entry and deleted that certification. My overall score remains the same even the Certification of Qualification category drops to 0. Thankfully and I just realized that the strong language score, post-secondary earned in Canada, and Foreign Work experience are already enough as I already reached 100 for that under the skills transferability category. I was really worried the overall CRS score will go down if I will not include the food handling certificate. But thank you for insisting that this will not earn 50 pts. I wouldn't have deleted it and It would have jeopardized my PR application in the future when it will not even affect my overall score. My score is very close to 500. Waiting now for ITA anytime soon. <3

Hi there, I have a C.Tech certificate from Ontario OACETT, can I claim points for CERTIFICATE OF QUALIFICATION? I work as a Drafting Technologist and recently IRCC has added Drafting Technologist 22212 in the CERTIFICATE OF QUALIFICATION LIST. Now we can claim point for COQ. But I am not sure, because there is no certificate I see. Please advise.

Usually it is through provincial trades so call IRCC and ask.

Did you figure it out? I don't think OACETT has Drafting Tech in their discipline

Hello Bro, I am trying to figure out the same thing. I have a diploma in Architectural Technician and some of jobs related to this fall under 22212. Once I went to Service Canada for something else and I also asked about this Certificate of qualification for Drafting Technician, but they don’t know anything about it. Also the problem with OACETT is no matter which job and program u did, all their certificate say is C.TECH, but the certificate don’t tell C.TECH of WHAT? Please let me know if u find anything.

Your certificate does have member number on it, IRCC can check the discipline. What is your discipline?
