Hi,

I was born in the UK and my mother was born in Canada. I am currently filling in an application to get my Certificate of Canadian Citizenship but have come across something which may cause an issue.

My mother still to this day has a Canadian passport even though permanently living in the UK. But does not have a record of her citizenship (her certificate) which is required in section 8 in the 'Certificate number' field.

She has her Canadian passport aswell as her short and long form birth certificate, should this be enough to provide along with the application or would she need to apply for her certificate before I can?

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Your mother doesn't need a citizenship certificate. Her proof of citizenship is her Canadian birth certificate.

On the application:

How did this parent obtain Canadian citizenship? birth in Canada
Canadian certificate no:

IRCC most likely means her Certificate of Citizenship number, in which case you could write N/A. However, it could be argued that IRCC wants the number on your mother's birth certificate, which you need to include with your application. So, since that's the only number you have, that's the one you would enter.
