Hello All, I am a brand new poster to this forum!

A couple weeks ago I did the IELTS (as a native speaker). My results are the following:

Listening: 7
Reading: 9
Writing: 8
Speaking: 9
Overall: 8.5

The listening test is where I screwed up. On one or more sections I lost track of what was going on. I didn't think I would lose as many points as I did but it happened. I live in the US and the British accents coupled with a particularly boring topic didn't do me any good.

I recognize that these bands meet the immigration criteria, but the listening score dropped my crs points, as I am not able to claim that I got a CLB score of over 9 in all categories. I was bummed out and decided not to re-do the test but I will be traveling to Canada at the end of this month and wondered about taking the celpip while I am there. Is the listening section of the celpip test easier than IELTS for those who have done both? Does preparing for the tests actually help you with the listening part of it? I didn't prepare for the test much, and even after reviewing sample tests after the exam I don't think it would have mattered with the listening part of the test.

Hi, I have appeared for TOEFL, IELTS and CELPIP. Well, not at the same time. At different points in my life :)

My general feeling after appearing for CELPIP was that the Listening session was the most toughest. Tougher than TOEFL/IELTS - Listening.

Having said that, I re-appeared for CELPIP and I felt my Listening went far better than the first attempt.

So, please don't loose hope. Just practice and be prepared with the test pattern. Good luck!

I've taken both and even though I got the maximum points possible on the IETLS for EE I would still argue that the CELPIP test is easier.

The questions on the listening section are all multiple choice rather than having to fill in a sentence with a specific word(s). Also, you get to use headphones which helped me be more focused during the test.

Other than that if you're planning to take the CELPIP I would make sure that the test center is able to send the test results to the US.

Cheers

I also personally think that CELPIP is easier than IELTS (and also shorter so you don't have to spend there whole day).

I did both, and IELTS was easier for me.

For CELPIP I got the following results:
Reading 12
Listening 12
Speaking 8
Writing 9

For IELTS I got
Reading 9
Listening 8.5
Speaking 8.5
Writing 8.5
