Hi guys,

Sorry I couldn't figure out what to put in the subject. Here's the story and would really appreciate all the help I can get.

CEC application filed: May 2010 (14 months now and no response yet other than AOR and file transfer to NY)
Post Grad work permit expiry: Sept 25, 2011 (almost 2.5 months from now)
LMO filed: July 11, 2011
Passport expiring, Feb, 2012
Planning to visit home (Pakistan): end of october/early november
I am wondering what would be the best thing to do? Get my passport renewed, then file my work permit application, then file my visitor visa application, (all on a new passport), and visit home. I really really don't know when will my PR come. Heck! I haven't even received request for meds yet and based on some reading when they call for passports, they want the passport to be valid for at least a year.

Any other suggestion???
Should I send a case specific inquiry as to why is my CEC application taking so long?

Regards

hi mah87,

it's like we have pretty much the same situation, im still waiting for their reply. im planning to go for holiday to philippines in december too. i just wanna share you my plans as we have the same plans this year of going for holiday.

first, i applied my work permit 2nd week of april, and my current work permit expired last may 14. im not sure if the immigration will honor the implied status as a legal status they required by the time the application is approved. im expecting my new work permit by august. it takes 4 months to process a work permit now (paper application). online application is only 2 months.

second, i already renewed my passport, coz my current passport will expire on february 2012. my new passport is ready to pick up, it's just im still waiting for the reply and advise from immigration. i just can't pick up my passport coz i have to travel from calgary to vancouver. or just send my old passport to philippine embassy through postal then they can send me my new one after. and i know it will take time to send by postal. as soon as i get a reply and advise from immigration then i can decide if i can get my new passport.

third, taking a holiday by the end of the year. i'm planning to go to philippines by december, but that's just a plan. still depends on the outcome of my application. i will just wait for the result of my application before i leave canada for holiday. i dont wanna leave canada in this last part of my application. im just worried that the immigration may request something from me like additional documents. and it will be hard for me to respond right away if im not in canada. i think, if i get approved, i dont have to apply for a re-entry visa. i just have to exit and enter canada as their requirement to finalize the papers to become a landed immigrant. i will use that exit to go for holiday. that will save me some time for re-entry visa application, save money to pay for re-entry visa application.

you have to renwew your passport, man. otherwise you cannot get your work permit longer than your passport valid date. if you apply work permit now and you will get till Passport expiring, Feb, 2012 which is less than 1 year. maybe u'll get PR before eh. dont know.

Hi,

Thanks y'all for the replies. I was wondering if I can apply for a visitor visa while my work permit application is also under process.
I'll be sending off an email to my immigration office NY to ask if I need to renew the passport at this point and hopefully should get it done within this month.

But if I can get a my passport renewed and a positive LMO, then apply for a visitor visa and work permit together (while I am in Canada and my CEC is also under process), I think I should be good to go and see my wife in November :)
What do you guys think??
However, I am sincerely hoping that I get my PR before all of this as this is just a headache on top of crunch time at work and I am really not looking forward for all of this

Regards
