Hi There,
I have applied for PR under CEC category and my application was received by Buffalo Consulate on 14-SEP-2011. Today morning I have received an email communcation confirming the receipt of the applicaton on the said date. Also in the email they have set forth some basic instructions for further contact with CIC by us or vice versa.
Tey have mentioned a number at the top, referring to it as "Application No.".

Could anyone explain if the application no. is actually the file number?
Does this mean that all my documents are in order and good for them to proceed with the file processing?
What to expect from here on?

Thanks in advance.

It means it has passed a simple "completeness" check. None of your data has been reviewed yet.

Before GCMS (a new information system) was implemented earlier this year, file numbers started with a B. For applications since then, a new file number system is in use, application numbers start with an E. Some people people have both, just because of the timing of their application.

Thanks for the info Jes.
Does this mean that all my documents were in order and has been accepted for further processing?
What can we expect next in the process?

Thanks.

This is your AOR. Next it will be put into a qeue for review by a visa officer. They may request more documents, or not. They may request that you complete your medical, sooner or later.

Up until recently, most applicants were waiting ~ 4 to 5 months for an AOR. It appears that processes and time frames are changing, so I don't really know what you should expect, least of all, when.
