Hi All,

I wanted to check aam I am eligible for CEC.

  • In Canada, I worked in Canada from June 02, 2019 to Oct 26,2019 - On a closed work permit. (5 Months)
  • Outside Canada, I traveled to my home country and "have been working for the same Canadian employer outside Canada" - Due to pandemic reasons, I was stuck in my home country till Dec 2021. (During this period I was still paystubs from a Canadian employer and paying tax in Canada so have my T4 statements 2019, 2020, and 2021)
  • In Canada, I came back to Canada on Dec 01, 2021, and continued working for the same employer on a closed work permit. (7 Months, till date (June 2022)

Questions:

1. 7+5 Months in Canada is 12 months; however, In the last 3 years time period, it is coming to 11 Months. As June 2022 is starting month of the fourth year. As per the CEC rule, it must be one year in the last three years. So I am losing one month. - Can we consider my paid vacation days to fill one month gap as I was working for the same employer outside Canada and took some vacation?
2. While filling out my express entry profile -Do I need to split my Job into three parts?
(June-Oct 2019-Title ABC - Country Canada, Oct 2019 to Dec 2021, Title ABC - Country my home country, Dec 2021 - TIll date, Title ABC - Country Canada)

1. Yes, you can consider paid vacations. However keep in mind that the more time passes, the more Canadian work experience you will lose. When draws resume, scores are expected to be very high. So you may no longer be able to claim 1 year of work experience by the time a draw happens.
2. Yes, you should split.

Just to clarify my answer for #1 - the paid vacation needs to have happened either as part of the first period you were working in Canada or the second period - in other words, it needs to be attached to these work periods somehow. If the paid vacation happened in the middle of the time you were working outside of Canada, then you won't be able to count this towards your Canadian work experience.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I am planning to attach the first two weeks of paid vacation in November 2019 for the first period(after my travel to my home country) and the last two weeks of Nov 2021, (before my travel to Canada.). So that I can show complete 12 months' experience.

Yes, I have to submit my application ASAP, or else I lose my experience. I submit my application to EOD today. I appreciate your help.

When you submit your profile isn't what's important. You need to have the 1 year of work experience at the time you submit your complete application AFTER you recieve ITA. So this is why you are super short on time. Submitting the EE profile does not lock in the 1 year of work experience. You still need to have the 1 year of work experience at the time you receive ITA - and ALSO at the time you submit your complete application after getting ITA.

Well, Then no other option I have to wait till December 2022 to meet my one-year experience criteria. :(
