CEC applicatoin/lost passport??

I lost my passport on 7th May but when I launched a police complain on 8th May the officer told me my passport is already located, someone found it and gave it to the police. But they told me as per law they cannot give it back to me and I can only get it back via Indian consulate general in Toronto and I am planning to go there on Monday. But can anyone tell me what is the procedure to get it back from Indian consulate general. Are they going to return it and I am little worried because of the bureaucracy.

I also wanna apply under CEC asap, I have a copy of first, last and student visa page(but no stamping pages). Is it gonna be enough for CEC application in case if it took longer to get back my passport.

yes but does anyone knows do Indian Consulate general return lost and found passports?

Maan Saab , Pehlaan te Congrats ;D , Its a positive news , I tried searching but couldn't find anything , But If you are sure passport is with Indian embassy , Take the Prints of copy of your passport and request to get it back , Orelse I don't know if you are working Can your employer help you in any way to prove your identity ?

Thanks Gurinder , at the moment police has my passport and they will onlygive it to indian consulate and i m hoping cgi will give it back to me without much hassles.
