Hi,

I have a CEC application in process since Jul 01. I am planning on resigning from my current job and going to my home country while I wait for the COPR.

My PGWP expires in late February. If I don't get approved by the time my PGWP expires, then I will be out of Canada and I won't have temporary status in Canada.

1. Will that invalidate my CEC PR application since I am no longer in Canada and I don't have any Canadian status
2. Will it impact my banking in any way (car loan, investments, etc.)

Thanks!

  1. NO. Having status in Canada is not a requirement for EE. Being in Canada without status is something that can lead to refusal.
  2. If you are paying a loan or have investments, you can continue to do so because I am guessing you will have access to your bank and stuff while abroad.
You can easily maintain status by applying for BOWP before your current permit expires. That will give you temporary status until a final decision on your PR application is done, point in which you will earn permanent status (if successful) or will lose any status (if rejected).

Thank you for your response.

So my work decided to give me unpaid time off while I am away. In the meantime, I am planning on applying on BOWP before I leave so I can have a legal employment status while I am away. What options do I need to select in the eligibility questionnaire to get the list of right documents?
