Hi guys,

I have more than a year of continued, full-time, and non-seasonal Canadian work experience (NOC A), but I have not received any points for it in my EE profile.

I am in Canada on a study permit, but my work experience is not co-op or internship or any of the sort. I know that work experience gained as a student does not count for Canadian Experience Class but I am not applying under CEC. I am applying under FSW, and no where does it state that work experience gained while a student does not gain points in CRS. It only states that "It must have been paid and full-time (or an equal amount in part-time)." The only place where they talk about restrictions for work experience gained while a student is under the CEC.

What do you guys think? Did I lose those points by mistake? Can I ask for a recalculation?

Thanks so much!

I can't post the link, but if you search the question "Can I count my work as a teaching assistant toward the work experience requirement?", you'll see that the CIC website clearly explains that it is the CEC whose Canadian work experience could not have been gained while at school. The only requirement for FSWP's work experience is that it " must have been full-time (or the equivalent in part-time hours), worked continuously and paid, for at least one year in the same occupation."

I thought a study permit only allowed you to work for 20 hours per week ?

Unless you are working on campus. You can work full time on campus with a study permit, as long as you also maintain your full-time status at your educational institution.

My job is on campus (but it is not a TAship or co-op).

Have you checked out this answer?:

From what I understand from the article, only work experience earned from positions classified as NOC 4012 while you were on Study Permit can be counted toward FSW.

After all, holding a Study Permit means you are here as a student, not to work and earn working experience.

I don't think that's correct. The article only mentions work under NOC 4012 as eligible because the question specifically asked about that NOC.

That's exactly the link I am talking about. It clearly separates the CEC from FSW in that the limitation of work experience gained as a student only applies to ECE and not to FSW.

That's what I believe too. It talks about "work experience" in general and not necessarily NOC 4012.

In addition, elsewhere on CIC, the only limitation imposed on work experience is that it is "paid and full-time." No where does it talk about it being gained as a student or not.

Does your score here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/crs-tool.asp

Match what you get in your EE profile?

While it is true about CEC, it is also true for EE CRS points (has nothing to do with FSW). You cannot get points for Canadian work experience gained while on a study permit.

Read carefully again:

To be considered under the Federal Skilled Worker Program:

Your work experience must have been full-time (or the equivalent in part-time hours), worked continuously and paid, for at least one year in the same occupation. (NOC 4012)

Like I already said, why do you want to claim Canadian work exp with a Study Permit, just doesn't make sense. Study Permit is for solely for study purposes.

You are confusing the eligibility requirements for the individual programs (FSW, CEC) and the requirements for gaining CRS points (which are independent of the program you are applying for).

The ministerial instructions are very clear when it comes to whether or not points are counted:
...

In this case, I was correctly received 0 for my Canadian work experience. You see, when you read the website it is not as clear as this. It's good to have such documents to look at.

Thanks!

When I use this tool, it does not say anything about restrictions for being a student and therefore I get the points for the work experience. But from the link that dan_and shared, it seems that there are no points for students.
