My wife is a canadian citizen (naturalized with her parents) she was born in Pakistan though. We've been living in pakistan ever since we got married (i'm not a candian citizen nor hold a PR).

She has Ontario health insurance card which she got made on her trip to canada last year. Her sister lives there.

Now we are about to have our baby in 4 months. Could she use her Ontario health insurance and give birth to our baby in Canada? Plz bear in mind that she doesnt fulfil the condition of Ontario health card that says she must be living in ontario for a period of 6 months in a year. Without the health insurance it is too expnsive. Do you thnk its possible for her to go and give delivery using her ontario health insurance?

If she does infact do that, would it hamper her chances of successfully sponsoring me (hr husband) as Canadian immigrant should we choose to do that in future? Or is it ok to go ahead and have the baby in canada knowing that she dosnt fulfil the stated condition on the health insuranc card and hoping that the authorities dont find out.

Should e take he risk?

Sorry but this will be a fraud....lot of people do it but it is still a fraud...the Ontario Health government can ask you to prove that you stayed in the province for six months prior to your wife's delivery...if you can't prove it, they will bill you with interest...if you don't pay, it goes to collection and if you don't pay collection, warrants are issued.

Do you realize how incredibly easy it is for the government to see that she has been out of the country for 6 months? All exits and entries from Canada are recorded electronically and retrieved with the click of a button.

What if we decide to pag for the delivery and not use the health card? I thnk il ask my wife to cancel the bealth card. Thankyou guys.

There is no problem with you paying for the delivery yourselves. For a typical hospital birth expect anywhere from $3000 - $5000.

Also there is no need to cancel the healthcard. For Ontario, anytime she returns to Canada she will just need to do a 3-month waiting period before she can use the healthcare again. Then after that she will need to stay in the province until she fulfills the healthcare residency requirement. So i believe if she came to Canada within the next month, then potentially she could have health coverage in time for the delivery 4 months from now.
