Canadian Visa Requirements! Urgent!!

I have some inquires about the requirements of the Canadian Visa for Yemeni citizens.
When my cousin applied for the Australian visa as a student one of the requirements he faced that he should not have visited or lived in Yemen for the last 6 months to a year...which is understandable due to the conditions in Yemen.
My question is does the Canadian visa have the same requirements for countries like yemen?

In order to get a student permit you need to prove that you have strong ties to your home country and that you will return. Unfortunately with a Yemeni passport an application for temporary stay in Canada screams asylum claimant.
