Canadian Study Permit with UK Bank Statements

Hi,

I will be applying for a study permit from India. The bank statements for proof of financial support will be from a bank in UK (I lived there previously). The bank statements will have my UK address but will be under my name. Am I allowed to use them as proof of financial support, or do I need to produce bank statements from an Indian bank itself? Also, does the amount need to be shown in Canadian Dollars, or will British Pound suffice?
