You have to apply for their TRV along your study permit application. You have to show additional finances for them. Your spouse have to show satisfactory level of independence in order to get visa...
There are two options in it for spouse:momi said:
1) Temporary Resident Visa
2) Open work permit
if you are applying for an open work permit then YES spouse have to show satisfactory level of independence as momi said but not a requirement in TRV.
I recently got a refusal when I applied for TRV for all kids and TRV for spouse without work permit.
In order for you to get case specific advise you may have to express the characteristics of your case.
Refusal reasons for me were insufficient funds and doubts on true intents.
For you, even if you can show adequate funds, can you show adequate family ties?
Suggest you work on that to avoid delays and increase chances of success in your application.
