Hello!

I have a lot of questions, but I'll start with asking where exactly we're supposed to send our application to?

I'm a Canadian citizen wanting to sponsor my Swedish boyfriend. We're sending in the application on the 1st of March (as that is the date of the first full year we've officially lived together). I'm told that the London office handles applications in Sweden. But on the Canadian Visa website it says I should be sending my paperwork to Mississauga?

Any information you can give me would be amazing, thanks in advance!!

You need to send the entire package to Mississauga if you are applying outland. Mississauga will handle first stage processing for the application (sponsor approval). Once first stage processing has been completed, Mississauga will forward the application package to the country specific visa office (London).

Regarding the Medical Exam - if there are any Swedes that can help - is there really only the one Panel Physician in all of Stockholm to get the properly documented check up? And how do I get the IMM1017 form? Is that provided directly by the doctor?

Hey!

I did the process from Sweden as well...
the doctor will give you a copy of the form to add to your application once you have done the medical exams.
for doctors: there is one in Stockholm, and one in Gothenburg as well. Otherwise if you live in the south of Sweden, it might be easier to go to Copenhagen - I lived in Malmö and that's what I did, there is only one in Dk.
for Sweden, here is from CIC website the contact details of both doctors http://www.cic.gc.ca/dmp-md/medicalinfo.aspx?CountryID=1907&CountryName=Sweden

Good luck,
Sweden :)

Hi,

I am Canadian living in Sweden and I want to sponsor my Swedish common law partner to come to Canada. Did you send personbevis to prove that you were living together and if so, where did you get them translated? Thank you!

Yes - I did get a personbevis but I got one in english directly so I didn't need to get it translated. However, I had to translate other documents,if you need the contact info for the translator, send me a private message and I'll send you the information.
Good luck,
Sweden

When we send the Visa (outland), I know that my boyfriend can come to Canada and stay for 6 months.

Is it possible to get an extension for this as well? Anyone know what it's called and how to get it/requirements?

It is just an extension of his visitor visa/record. You should be able to apply for that extension online here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/visitor.asp ,but do it roughly 1 month before his current one expires.

Thanks, Alurra :)

Also I'm wondering, since I've been unemployed for so long, if I can get my dad to be a co-signer...or rather if I should. He's already provided us with a letter acknowledging our continuing relationship and that he intends to have us live with them until we get back on our feet in Canada.

As far as the income stated on my Option - C...it's extremely minimal and on the checklist it asks for details of other income. I was wondering if it would help to have some kind of document provided by my dad to show his and/or my mothers income since we intend on living with them when we arrive?

I don't think with sponsorship you can have a co-signer, at least I'm 99.9% sure of it. I think if your parents are willing to host you both and have a letter to that extent and although minimal you do have an option c, it shouldn't be too much of an issue. I know when it comes to spousal sponsorship, the amount of money you make is not an issue, but not sure if the rules are the same for common law. I'm sure someone with more knowledge than me will chime in.

Marriage and commonlaw are the same. There is no minimum income requirement, so no need to include co-sponsors.

A simple letter explaining how parents will be helping with financial support (and they can write their own testimonials also) will be sufficient.
