Canadian seeking work in US - advice needed

Hi, Good afternoon,

This may not be the right location for this question - apologies - but I can't find a better match.
If indeed there is a better location, or a better information forum for this, please advise by reply! THANKS.

I am a duel national, Canada/UK, resident in the UK.
I am seeking work in the US as a science lecturer (part or full time).

Searches seem to suggest I can be employed under 'TN Status', if an offer of employment is made, for which I apply at a port of entry. BUT...
I am being blocked by HR departments from taking the many available jobs because they insist on a very narrow range of requirements (Green Card or Work Permit) before processing applications, but the way TN works is that I need the application accepted before I can get the TN Permit/Visa!
(I can't get the permit until I get the work, and I can't get the work until I have the permit! Gaaahh!)

Thus I need expert advice about how to get past this bureaucratic dead end and get to be teaching science!

Super-grateful for any advice or any pointers to links/contacts that may know more about this.

THANK YOU,
Dr. David Shepherd.

I know of two ways

1. Contact the hiring manager directly instead of going through HR.
2. If you're filling out online forms where it asks about your status in the US, just say that you have the right to work in the US. Say that you have a green card/work permit. You can explain later.

In both cases, the goal is to get past the automated filters and speak to an actual human being who can understand that you will be using the TN-visa route. Also, you want to get past the first-level HR drone who doesn't necessarily know about visa regulations.

I know many people who have done this successfully. However, my experience is limited to large companies, I have no idea how it works for Universities/Academia.
