Hello All,

Quick Question here -

I got my Canadian PR in 2013 and its up for renewal n 2018.
I lived in Canada until 2015, so I did file my taxes and have T4's for three years i.e. 2013, 14 and 15, which I will be submitting with my PR Renewal application.
I moved to the U.S in 2016.

My question is - in order to renew my Canadian PR in 2018 - Do I need to also file taxes for 2016 and 2017 for my PR renewal ?
Or I don't have to, as I did not live in Canada for those two years as I was in the U.S ?

I would appreciate all your help, looking forward to get some guidance on above question. Thanks !

Even if you weren't living in Canada, you may have still been a resident for tax purposes so may be required to file tax return regardless of your PR app. Ties to Canada (like bank accounts, credit card, investment accounts, memberships, home, family living here, intent to return etc etc) can all be assessed and CRA could deem you a resident for tax purposes.

Thanks Rob_TO for replying. Yeah It looks like, I may have file the tax returns for the remaining years to renew my PR.
Thanks !
