Hi there,

I am Canadian but am a Green Card holder in the U.S. My wife is American. We are looking to move to Canada as I have just received a job offer that will require me to be there in 6-8 weeks. I have several questions regarding my wife's move:

1. Can she come with me now and we can apply for her PR status from Canada?
2. How long will it take to get her a Social Insurance number so she can work?
3. Should we start filling out the forms before we make the move or wait until we are in Canada?

Thanks for any insights!

1. Yes, as a visitor. You can apply for her PR when you get to Canada, but please do consider using the Outland option (see below) to do so.
2. She gets one when she becomes a permanent resident. It takes an average of 11 months for Buffalo (6-8 months is more the actual).
3. Fill them out now, apply for her FBI report, that will take about 8-12 weeks to get back.

Read Leon's first post in the first thread, it is an excellent summary of the process.
