Hello everybody,
I have been living in Germany for the past few years. In 2014, I applied for and got Canadian PR. I went to Canada in September, 2015 and after fulfilling the landing requirements, came back to Germany after a few weeks. In the coming months, I would be eligible for German nationality but in order to get it, I would have to give up my current one because Germany does not allow dual nationality. I plan to move to Canada after getting German Nationality. Since I got Canadian PR with my current nationality and it is stated on my PR, I don't know how I should proceed in this case. Would it present a problem while entering Canada (I would make a notarized copy of my current Passport before finalizing citizenship renunciation) or later on when I renew the PR? Do I have to notify CIC in this case?
Can somebody please clarify this situation? Any help/guidance would be much appreciated :)

Cheers,

Canadian PR does not make you a Canadian citizen or national. You are still eligible to adopt nationality or citizenship for any other nation in the world. The trouble you seem to be afraid of comes up only when you apply for Canadian citizenship.

The real question here is what do you need to do to enable air travel on a new German passport should that not be linked to your PR status whether you would be challenged by the airline for not having an ETA which of course as a PR you cannot have. Impossible to say not knowing the information available to an airline whether an airline will accept a notarised copy of current passport in conjunction with PR card to ignore the German passport not being linked to PR.

I would think somewhere on this forum others have changed their base nationality after getting PR and possibly revolves around the same process for linking in a new passport.

Well, you have hit the nail on the head. Thats exactly the problem I would be facing. My PR Card would be showing the nationality I have given up and have no passport for whereas it is not clear if I can get an eAT for my German passport because I am a PR Card holder. I guess this situation calls for direct clarification from either CIC or the Canadian Embassy in Germany. Thank you very much for your answer.
