It will be extra tough on new immigrants and those who are trying to find an employer to sponsor. There is still however a shortage of highly skilled workers.

This is the first time where i have learned that the unemployment rate in the U.S. is higher than that of Canada. From what I've read, there are still plenty of jobs to be had, but be prepared.

The overall unemployment rate of a country actually tells you very little because it depends so much on the area or even the occupation. The difference between provinces in Canada is huge, from just over 3% in AB to something like 15% in Newfoundland. Then you can have big differences between different towns in the same province too.

Most of Canada's business is with US, and when US will slow down in buying, Canada economy will automatically get impacted and will eventually slow down. Skilled worker demand is there but is the job really there?

I think the immigrants should wait to see what will happen to US economy further down the road, they says it may take up to 13 months, if Canada's biggest customer start buying then Canada economy will automatically start soaring - BTW this is the cycle of recession, US has to come out of it first, then others will get better.

Correction China is NOT in RECESSION ,it is expected to grow 8% this year and BC has the Highest proportion of Trade with China of any Province.Car Sales went down 1.5% last month in Canada,US went down 30% Canada will grow 1 % this year,U.S will go -4%.Alberta will post 6 Billion Dollar Surplus instead of 9 Billion Billion because of Recession,So its relative

Thanks for your input and the expectations you have provided are relieving - I am on my quest to get a PR and by no way I want the Canadian economy to slow down, I actually want it to grow so myself and people like me who are waiting to come can get a job when they get there.

According to what you have said, Alberta and BC are good places to move in.
