Hello!

I have recently received my post-graduation work permit and I am told that I can work with any employer. However, at the bottom of my immigration document there are some "conditions" like

1. I may not work in child-care.
2. I may not work in primary/secondary school teaching
3. I may not work in health services field occupations.

This leads me to 3 questions...

1. Why is it that I have these restrictions?
2. What does "health services FIELD occupations" mean? would counseling be considered under this category?
3. In order to qualify for my 1 year of full time work so that I may be eligible for Canadian residency; may I be self-employed? Could I have my own counseling office?

Thanks for your replies in advance!

It appears you didn't have a medical, required for the above occupations.

No.

No, self employment doesn't count for CEC. Page 8 of the instructions http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/5609E.PDF

Karla, I just got a new work permit, my third, and I have these restrictions listed as well (Did not have these on the previous work permits, including the one I got less than a year ago). Seemed kind of strange, given that mine is NOT an open work permit and I can only work for my current employer in my current position :) I was wondering the same, just figured it was new standard language, because these occupations not only require medicals, but police clearances.
