I am gathering my documents to apply for PR under the Canadian Experience Class for Skilled Worker category. A part of requirement is the employment reference. My employer is unaware of the format/content of the letter. Can anyone please suggest what should be included in the letter. Also my work experience have been Quebec though my employer can place be anywhere outside Quebec. Suggestions required for highlighting it in my letter. A quick response from you folks would be very helpful.

Your letter should look like this, the below is just a sample from this forum, ask your manager/HR to modify according to their company's standard

Should be on company's letterhead
<Date>
To Whom It May Concern

This is to certify that <Employee Name> is a Full time employee of XXX LTD. <Employee> has been employed with XXX LTD full time basis since <Date of Joining>. <Employee> is working as <Role> from <Date> to <Date>. His regular working hours are <hrs/week>.

<Employee> main duties/responsibilities are,
Examples (IT Analyst role) - Analyzing functional and business requirements,
Preparing Technical Plan, Creating specifications and low level design, Script designing and development, providing technical support, creating the specifications, project co-ordination, application delivery and maintenance. Etc etc etc

As per our records <his/her> address is <Address>.

His approximate gross salary is <CAD> per year, plus additional benefits <if any>

This letter is being issued as requested by <Employee> for his application for permanent residency in Canada.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if any further information is required.

Emphasis more on Content rather than format. There is no format for writing, so it can be a simple "To Whom It May Concern" Letter.

As stated above, consult "Document Checklist" and Refer to Bullet #10. Make sure your reference letter consists of all those points.

Employer reference letters must be:
• written on company letterhead,
• signed by the responsible officer/supervisor,
• have the printed name and title of the responsible officer/supervisor beneath the signature,
• show the company's full address, telephone and fax numbers, e-mail and website addresses,
• stamped with the company's official seal (if applicable - optional).

Reference letters must include all of the following information:
• the specific period of your employment with the company, (Very important)
• the positions you have held during the period of employment and the time spent in each position,
• your main responsibilities and duties in each position, (Very important)
• the corresponding National Occupational Classification (NOC) code (if known - - optional but nowadays everyone knows their NOC),
• your total annual salary plus benefits,
• the number of hours worked per week (Very important)
Make note of the important points. If you miss any of these points, CIC may find grounds to reject your application.
You should make sure ALL of those above points are in the letter.
Good luck!

Dear Above two guys have explained nicely. In my case I had also mentioned all my vacation days with details of paid/unpaid.Take proper care while mentioning ur duties. They must show closeness to NOC code duties.Refer HSRDC site for duties.Along with that I had attached all Paystubs to tell them clearly that I worked full 52 weeks.Just 2 days before I got my passport request. In case of any query ask me because ur EMPLOYMENT letter is most important.
