Canadian class experience/ Refugee Claimant

Hi everyone,

please I need your help. I came into canada as a post graduate student in 2016 and I was able to Obtain one full year of work. I have all the requirements for the CEC so I went ahead to put in an application in early 2019.

However, in mid 2019 my first application under the CEC got rejected due to a mistake made in my application and was asked to leave the country within 90days. I had no status and I couldn’t return home due to my sexual orientation. That was the main reason I left home in the first place. I got worried and ended up seeking Asylum in late 2019

In August 2020 I decided to reapply under the CEC since all requirements were obtained before I became a refugee in canada.

I heard back from IRCC few days ago asking me to submit a valid passport and the passport I have expired already while this new application was going on. I’m unable to secure my passport because it was seized when I made my claim.
I don’t know what to do. I haven’t even been given a hearing date or heard back from CBSA since I made my claim in late 2019.

I need help guys.

You can't renew your passport while you are under a refugee claim.

To the best of my knowledge, it also isn't possible to apply for CEC while you are in Canada without status.

You may want to speak with a lawyer.
