Does Canadian Citizenship work similar to British Citizenship, where if my mother was born in the UK, I qualified for a British passport.

I was born Scotland in 1962 to a Canadian mother, am I entitled to Canadian Citizenship and if so, what do I need to do to claim it. I have my mothers wedding certificate and death certificate- do I need her birth certificate, if so, can I get this online?

Thanks

1. Yes, you would be eligible as first generation born abroad.
2. You will require you mothers birth certificate to show her birth in Canada.
3. Go on line to the Vital Indices in the province where she was born to see if you can obtain a copy on line. Unlikely in most provinces.

Once I have my Citizenship certificate, what do I need to do to bring my family and what are the cut off ages for me to bring my children with me?

According to the Law of Canada, the citizenship by heritage only pass one generation born aboard. So, you will be automatically granted Canada Citizenship, not your kids or grand kids. If you want to bring you family to Canada, you need to apply PR for them through Family Sponsorship programs. You may find it will be very difficult, if not impossible to sponsor any of your adult (older than 22 yrs) or married kids.

Once your kids immigrated to Canada as a PR, and then obtained their Citizenship, then they will be counted as first generation Canadian, and if their kids were born aboard, their kids will be automatically granted Canada Citizenship.

You must get a copy of your mom's birth certificate to prove she was born in Canada. Pretty sure you will never get your Canadian citizenship proof without this.

Once you have proof of your own Canadian citizenship, you must apply for PR for your children/spouse. You can't pass your citizenship to your children since you yourself was born outside Canada.

The cut off age to apply for your children's PR, is before their 22nd birthday. Once they turn 22 they are no longer dependents so would need to find their own way if they wanted to immigrate to Canada.

Please advise what explanation I should give I am tthinking to tell that I went with my fiance who is my husband now for flagpoling but never crossed the border also I was on student visa thinking to send the copies of my all the pages of the passports as there ie no stamps of exiting and entering th eborder that day I dont know how that appeare din their record

Write them a letter of explanation and tell the truth. Stick to facts you can document. If your husband flagpoled that day he should have stamps and record of entry, COPR stamped, etc. Also try to find any backup documentation showing you were in Canada that day, the day before, and the day after. Receipts from gas stations, purchases of any kind, etc. (Credit card records for example)
