I am a Canadian citizen. I own a residential property in Ontario. I work for a US company but work in various international locals. I have never established residency in Canada. I would like to gain residency in Ontario. How do I establish Ontario residency?

LOL. So, more detail. If I move to Canada and 1) continue working for my US company, 2) when working I am outside of Canada, and 3) I will be working outside of Canada for more than 1/2 of the year, can I still gain residency?

From your other posts, you want to get status in Canada for your step-child so that she can attend university here but you don't actually want to move to Canada. If you submit a sponsorship app, IRCC is going to look at your address history and likely conclude you are living in the US and request proof of intent to actually live in Canada. As you don't plan to live here, that will be a problem and likely result in a refusal.

Why do you want to "gain residency"? Are you asking with respect to residency for tax purposes? Health care? Just being able to say you live in Canada for bragging rights?
Would that apply to you?
You are a non-resident for tax purposes if you:
normally, customarily, or routinely live in another country and are not considered a resident of Canada.
do not have significant residential ties in Canada. you live outside Canada throughout the tax year. you stay in Canada for less than 183 days in the tax year.
I am sorry all. I really am not being clear and you are all being helpful. I would move to my property in Ontario. However, I work in international waters on a, typically, 6 week on / 6 week off rotation. So, I would not live in the US, I would live in Canada. But I would not be in Canada for more than 183 days due to the nature of my work. I indicated that the company I work for is a US company because that may impact the rules vs. me working internationally for a Canadian company.
