Hi! My spouse is a citizen and I am the principal applicant. They are a PhD student and need to travel outside Canada for conferences (eg they’re going to Mexico for a week and Europe for two weeks). I’ve heard there’s a lot of potential issues for PAs leaving Canada when the application is in progress, but what about the sponsor? Will this affect my status if they’re outside for school?

1. No effect on the sponsor for short trips.

Yes, it will affect your application if your spouse leaves for school very often and for longer periods of time since inland application requires you to live together but couple short trips are okay

It’s less of an issue if the Canadian travels for work if it is not frequent as long as you remain in the shared home. If the person was traveling monthly it would be different. 3 weeks should be fine.
