Hi, so I am a Canadian citizen working and living outside Canada. My friend that I have known for more than 15 years wants to visit Canada and wants an invitation letter. Can I write the invitation letter as a Canadian living abroad and send it to her? or do I have to live in Canada to be able to do so?

Note: Financially she can pay for the whole trip with tickets and accomodation. Her travel history is good since she has traveled a lot to Europe, Asia and other places.
Both of us currently live in the same country.
I am planning to visit Canada sometime this year and meet up with her there.

An invitation letter is to invite someone to visit you in Canada. So no point in you writing a letter.

Just to add, even if you are meeting up with your friend in Canada, the supplementary documents the inviter would include in the invitation letter would be their permanent address and employment/funds in Canada, neither of which you have. That’s why an invitation letter from you would be moot.

She can mention her plans to meet up with you in the purpose of travel section.
