Two questions:

(1) When completing the questionnaire post ITA it asks me for my son's passport or another government issued ID.
I just put his birth certificate number under ID but I cannot specify that it is indeed a birth certificate. Is that OK?

(2) The checklist asks me to provide a proof of my son's status

"You must provide a copy of your family member’s Canadian Citizenship or Canadian immigration status document (e.g. Canadian passport, Permanent Resident Card, Study Permit, or Work Permit). Please provide a copy of both sides of the document."

Would it be OK if I upload his birth certificate? Otherwise I will need to apply for his passport and wait 10 days.

Thanks.

it's need to be id from your home country or /and Canadian passport
I did submitted my child details as well, I was told birth certificate is not considered as an ID, I didn't do his medical , I just attached his Alberta health card since he is Canadian.

These details I also explained in explanation letter while submitting my application.

My medical is passed , it means they accepted my explanation.

Birth certificate is fine and works as a national ID. Also, its number is the national ID number.
I called CIC, and working with a professional consultant, where the both gave me the same answer.

Thanks for the reply. To get things going, I think I will submit my application with my son's birth certificate and then send a CSE when I get his passport.

Really not needed. You're not obligated to make a passport for your child if you're not willing to travel.
