Hi,
i am a Canadian permanent resident who is living outside Canada after i finished my 3 years residency in Canada and i am waiting for my citizenship. last year i got married outside Canada to a non Canadian nor permanent resident guy and now i am pregnant and planning to deliver my baby in Canada. my question is would my baby who will be born in Canada get the citizenship because i am a permanent resident ? in a different way would the situation of his father(who is international) affect the baby's citizenship???
i would really appreciate any help!
thanks

You will have to give birth in Canada, but yeah, your kid will be a Canadian citizen by the virtue of being born in Canada AND not having diplomat parents (anybody who is born in Canada is a Canadian citizen, except if the parents are diplomats)

Under the Canadian citizenship law, people who were born in Canada, on or after February 15, 1977, to a parent who was either a diplomat or had diplomatic immunities and privileges, are not Canadian citizens by birth unless one of their parents was a permanent resident of Canada or a Canadian citizen.
If your child is born outside of Canada though, then you would have to come back to Canada, and sponsor your child for permanent residency.

If the baby is born in Canada it will be Canadian, because it is born in Canada and neither of the parents is a diplomat.

Be aware that in order to be eligible for health care in Canada, you have to reside in your home province at least 6 months a year. If you have been outside Canada for more than 6 months, you will probably have lost your health care and if your province realizes that, even if they don't realize now but find out in the future, they will send you the bill for the birth of your baby. To avoid this, you should clear things up with your health care now and if you have lost your health care, you know you must move back at least 3 months early to make sure you get your coverage before the baby is born and you should stay for at least 6 months too in order to make sure you were eligible in the first place.

The Canadian baby will not be affected by the fathers citizenship nor will the fathers status be affected by the baby.
