Does any body think that Canadian and american politicians will follow the advice of this Canada/US border task force? As of now, this seems to be the only hope for the border to open!

Here is the article

This was published before the huge surge of covid cases and the new mutation. There is already a pretty large amount of non essential travel actually going on.

Hopefully not. Travel needs to be restricted until such a time as a vaccine is widely available.

Besides, the border is already open for immediate / extended family members. Anything beyond that is non-essential travel.

Tons of people who are working non-essential jobs seem to be also commuting daily and not quarantining which also shouldn't be happening.

I understand that. Doesn’t help families who can’t afford to miss 2 weeks of work, unfortunately!

how does the quarantine work anyways? If my in laws were to quarantine in my basement, would my wife and I still be able to work? Or would we have to quarantine too?

If the basement has a separate bathroom and kitchen (or food can be delivered and they won't use a kitchen at all), then you're good. Basically you can't have any common living space for 14 days.

If people can't quarantine to stop the spread of the virus, they shouldn't be traveling.
