Canada Transit Visa - Questions

Hey All,

I am an Indian(I have an Indian Passport) and currently I am in US and have booked a ticket to India via Cathay Pacific. My transit is at Vancouver. I had applied for the transit visa online one month ago but there has been no response in it. I am scheduled to travel on December. My question is,

1. In General, How long does it take for the transit visa to be approved ?

2. Apart from getting the visa approved, should we also get an stamping done in my passport? If so, when should we do that?

3. How do we find to which immigration office, my application is under process? Is there a way to find this one?

4. Is there a general email id or contact number to call and ask some doubts regarding this?

I am slightly tensed regarding this and any help would be appreciated.

Cathay Pacific have flights from US cities too, so why do you need a Canadian transit visa? Before you book the ticket, you should have taken care of the visa issue first.

I didnt know that a transit visa is required. I found the rates to be less so I just booked the ticket. Now I dont have any other way other than to go through this process.

Do you know how long the process takes?

The process can take anywhere from a few days to several months. It's really difficult to say since each application is individual.

You can try sending a Case Specific Enquiry to either the LA/NY visa offices after you exceed the normal processing time for TRVs (as the transit visa application is the same).

For LA, processing time is 42 days. It is 52 days for NY. These are only indicative..... it could be faster/take longer than this.


The other option would be to re-book your tickets

For sure you need a Transit visa !!!....It genrally dosen't take took long my wife got it in 1week . She traveled from india transited via Toronto to USA.

If your application is pretty straight forward will receive in a week or two. Do you attest know which office your file is sent NY/LA?

Based on that try contact them !!!....

hello hari, do we need to send the passport after we get a transit visa approved. I am travelling to India on 6th November and applied for transit visa on 28th September havent heard back yet. Please help what to do.

Hello, Did you hear back from cic. when did you applied? I applied on 29th september . no response uptill now.
