Hi Everyone,

I have someone I know, whom I am talking on his behalf, who applied as a refugee almost 20 years ago. When he applied then, he was from a country not worthy living, but not enough as to being a refugee. He, before that, had a degree from a foreign university and came back to his country which he does not like and was imprisoned for refusing to write prescription drug for someone, he decided to come to Canada, whatever means necessary, including falsifying a story. His mother is Ethiopian and his father is from another country, so he used an ethiopian story, which had political problems due to socialism and communism.

What I want to get at here, this person has a university degree, which mentioned he was born in the country, where his permanent resident documents say he was born in Ethiopia, thereby, could not go too far with his degree and has not been doing jobs related to his field. What can someone do in this case? He is already a Canadian citizenship for at least 12 years, can he change his place of birth without being deported or imprisoned for lying 20 years ago? He has kids and a wife here. I am asking for him because I would like to improve his situation. Is there a statute of limitations for this?

Thanks

In what way does he want to improve his situation - do you ean by getting a better job using hs degree?

If so I wouldn't think that prospective employers would want to take a look at his birth certificate. even if his birth certificate states he was born somewhere he wasn't - what is to say that he was born there and maybe moved when he was 3 years old or something (to his actual place of birth) and lived and studied there.

An employer certainly wo't go to such lengths to actually check these things out (uless he wants to go and work for the Canadian secret service or something ;) )
