Hello Everyone :-) I am a British citizen and a physician by profession, Just wondering how can I apply for a canadian Immigration/PR application without intending to apply on the work basis. Many thanks in advance for your advise/suggestions.

Research the Express Entry program.

Note that you won't be able to practice as a physician in Canada until you go through a rectification process. This process is quite involved. Please research it before making a decision to move here.

If a consultant in the UK licensing is not that complex. The college does drag it out and make you provide a lot of documentation but If you did your trainIng and are a licensed physician/consultant from UK, US, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, NZ, Taiwan, HK or Switzerland then licensing does not require redoing residency and licensing exams. Mostly documentation and jurisprudence. If a specialist finding employment can be challenging should explore opportunities before coming to Canada.

Are you a consultant or junior doctor? You really need to be a consultant move to Canada and get relicensed or else it becomes much more complex with no guarantees. What type of physician if you want to practice medicine? Finding employment in Canada in certain specialties can be difficult even if there are wait times. It is mostly related to hospital budgets and lack of support staff. Many of the specialists jobs available are in communities and in provinces that pay less not in Toronto for example. There are differences in pay for physicians depending on the province.

May Thanks for your reply and kind advice. I am working as Acute Medical consultant and I am aware of the fact that if I get the residence permit before I move to canada, Atleast I will be able to visit freely and explore different work options in different provinces rather relocating through any employer.

If not planning on working as a physician it tends to be difficult to find other well-paying employment opportunities unless you have experience in other fields for example you’ve done medical research, you have experience in medical tech, etc. Many IMGs who can’t get relicensed end up going back to school. Some also leave Canada to practice medicine in another country. Canada is a small country so there aren’t often the same work opportunities and variability as a larger country like the UK. The fact that Canada is also in a recession so many employers will not be hiring or starting new projects.
