I am an Indian IT Professional with over 17 years of experience. Am 39 yrs and holding MBA degree, currently living in South East asia.

Considering relocating to Canada for good and started exploring the PR process. However go confused and request experts & veterns to throw some lights.

1. IT Professional is not in the list of 29 professions of Skilled Worker category. Do I stand a chance to qualify for Canadian PR?

2. If yes, under what category should I apply?

3. Does the age will be a barrier for me?

4. I have been working & living outside India for past 17 years. Does it have any impact?

5. Whats the processing time for getting PR?

6. How is the IT market in Canada for experienced professionals like me?

7. Do I need to enage an immigration lawyer to apply for the application submission?

Thanks in advance

1. IT Professional is not in the list of 29 professions of Skilled Worker category. Do I stand a chance to qualify for Canadian PR? Need a job offer to qualify as IT is not in the current 29 list. Changes are expected in June/July, keep a close watch on the list and eligibility criteria.

2. If yes, under what category should I apply? You can apply now only with a job offer

3. Does the age will be a barrier for me? Selection criteria may change in June/July, watch http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/

4. I have been working & living outside India for past 17 years. Does it have any impact?Should not impact

5. Whats the processing time for getting PR?Depends on the queue, again wait until June/July to get a clear picture

6. How is the IT market in Canada for experienced professionals like me?Form what I read in forums like these, it is ok

7. Do I need to enage an immigration lawyer to apply for the application submission?Only if you don't have time to do it yourself

Thanks in advance

Thank you very much ptv7425.

Have query... Understand, its difficult to get any job before landing Canada. If thats the case, this would be a big hurdle. Isn't it?

Yes getting a job offer from outside Canada is difficult, without that the only option is to wait and see if IT will be included in the next list in July.

IT was removed from the list in 2010 and there are plenty of applicants in that pre-June 2010 queue (including me). So there is only a small chance that IT will be back on the list anytime soon. Look at other NOCs and see if you can apply in one of those.

I think you can look for Quebec Skilled Worker immigration programme.

Hi,
You might also look at PNP of various provinces e.g. Manitoba, Saskatchewan to see if you qualify. Quebec Skilled Worker immigration needs knowledge of French to be successful AFAIK.

Hi,

like rightly said above, if your occupation is not in the shortage list, which is announced every year, PR application will not go through.

also, it is very difficult to procure a job offer for the same purpose.

a firm in Canada, has to go through a lot of proceedures, to offer you a job ( they have to show their value in terms of size of organisation, worth of the firm, why no canadian can be hired for this etc), the vaccancy and the offer to you, has to be endorsed by the hsrdc etc. so a lot of firms, dont do it. as ready talent is available in the form of fresh graduates from foreign countries, who get to work after education.

Wait for the new occupation list and then decide.

Guys,

Thanks for the useful tip on NOC.

Did some search and found my job title was listed in 0 Management occupations --> 021 Managers in engineering, architecture, science and information systems --> 0213 Computer and information systems managers.

Sorry I could not able to post the URL. For actual link add http & www5 before hrsdc.gc.ca or copy and paste in browser <<< hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/NOC/2011/Profile.aspx?val=0&val1=0213 >>>

Does this means it comes under Skilled Worker category.

hi, every occupation has an NOC. NOC is nothing but a code, given to A-Z of occupations in Canada !!

but the NOC has to be in the shortage of occupation list !!
