Canada oath ceremony

Hi,

I appeared for the citizenship test and interview in August 2014. Everything went well and the interviewing officer was also o.k with my papers. But I got RQed. I got the RQ in September 2014 which I completed and sent duly.
I received a call from CIC in January 2015, some confirmation about my residency I guess and I answered all their queries. I am yet to hear from them about the oath.

Now my questions are-
1. How long does this whole process after the citizenship test, interview and RQ take?
2. I have submitted my 16 year old son's application also along with mine. He has not stayed in Canada all these years but I have. Is this the cause for delay?
3. If I get the call for oath ceremony and if my son is not able to attend it what happens? He may not be able to attend because he is in the final year of his secondary school in the home country and busy with exams and other study related stuff.
4. Can I attend the ceremony for myself alone? And later when he comes to Canada(Mississauga-Ontario) can he get his ceremony done then?

Looking forward to some help in this....

Thanks

1. The process is very inidivdual so it's difficult to guess what your processing times will be. You can browse through the discussions in this section of the forum to see what others have experienced.
2. No - this shouldn't be a cause for delay.
3. Your son is obligated to attend the citizenship ceremony if he wants to become a citizen. If he can't attend the ceremony then he won't be given citizenship along with you.
4. Yes - you can attend alone. If your son fails to attend, they may allow him to reschedule the ceremony or he may have to start the application process again from scratch.

Hi Scylla,

Thanks a Ton.

1.Starting from scratch in the sense, he has to complete 4 years of residing in Canada before reapplying for citizenship is it?
2. If I get the intimation letter from CIC about OATH CEREMONY, then should I immediately inform them about my son's predicaments and not being able to attend the ceremony, or shall I land up alone at the venue on the day of ceremony and then explain his absence?
3. If I inform them over the phone about his absence, then will they reschedule mine also for a later date? If that is the case then I want to avoid such a situation.

Sorry for too many questions? Just being a bit concerned...

Thanks
