Hi,

I applied for Immigration under CEC, but the question I have applies to all categories.

I got my medicals done a few weeks back and paid $170 in doctors fees and lab charges ( x ray, blood test). I have insurance through my employer here in Canada.

Has anyone tried getting these charges reimbursed through their workplace insurance ? Because technically it's a medical expense and should be covered and it's doctors fees and not cic's fees.

Any advise ?

K

It is an out-of-pocket medical expense and you may claim it when you file taxes. According to CRA:
To claim medical expenses, the total costs must exceed three per cent of your net income and only the portion that exceeds your net income is claimed. Example: if your net income is $30,000, your medical expenses have to exceed $900 ($30,000 x 3%) and you can only claim the expenses over $900.

As per my knowledge being in insurance company if you have normal health insurance package policy it only covers expenses related to illness...but if you have policy which covers rounite check up and examination then mate certainly you can have reimbursement....
