The best way I would suggest is go to LCBO with your passport.

They will charge you about $15 and issue an ID. Make sure to carry Photographs as well.

Thanks,

That's interesting. I could do that too. What kind of ID will they issue and can you use it anywhre in Canada?
Another question, I have been trying to open a bank account as a visitor (awating PR) but event hough I have heard t hat some persons have had luck in this regard, I am yet to succeed as they want two IDs, one Canadian which I also don't have. Any suggestion anyone?

As to driver licence, can I apply for one as a visitor and can that ID be used to open a bank account etc?

They will issue a PHOTO ID, which can be used anywhere (for opening an Account as well) in Canada.

For drivers licence, you can get one as a visitor. If you are planning to get a G1(Learning Licence), Which is a written test I suggest you to google "APNA Toronto G1 test"(If you are in Toronto) and go through the practise test which is easy and simple.

OMNI thanks for that very important piece of advice. I w ill be calling LCBO to follow-up on this. I am suprised I didn't get this valid info before. That's why this forum is so great. Also I will be googling the APNA Toronto G1 test you spoke of as surely I want to get the G1 licence even though I have had a licence for more than 20 years but I was told my country, Jamaica, is not exempt from the test etc. so would have to go through the process all over to get a licence. Tx much again

I trust they will give ID to persons with passports from all overseas countries and not just particular countries.

Just in case they have countries that don't appear on their list, if there is one, would a G1 licence be adequate ID for transactions requiring ID such as opening bank accounts etc etc.

Its for all countries not limited to some(Hopefully ::).

And G1 is more than enough for all those transactions.

Thanks,

Hi OMNI
Not sure if I misunderstood you but I went to LCBO yesterday and they told me that they really do not process IDs and that I would have to go to Service Canada. They also said any ID issued on their behalf i.e. bearing their name could only be used at LCBO for alcohol purpose.

I think you were given bad advice. LCBO ID is only for proof of age when buying alcohol.

Didnt you say I should go to LCBO for ID? Did I misunderstand you? Please advise. Thanks

The BYID card is govt issued photo ID which is what is needed. I was looking at getting one but I would have to surrender my drivers licence to get it so I decided not to get it.

This might be an alternative.
