Hi Guys,

I need your advice on my situation. I have a work permit valid till January 2016. I currently also have a CSQ and an offer of employment from another employer. I wish to change my work permit to my new employer and was infomed that I could do that directly at the port of entry. When I checked online I see there is an option called flagpoling where a person can cross border to US and get his new work permit. However I do not have a US visa in order to do that. Is anyone aware of the options I could take in order to get my new work permit at the port of entry?

P.S. I have an Indian passport.

Thank you so much for your help :)

Yes the option exist. You can do flag pole without having a US visa.

People do that all the time for doing their PR landing.

Just drive to the nearest US border, tell them that you wish to do flag pole for Canadian immigration and on the way back get your work permit.

You need to carry any / all docs including your CSQ as well as current job offer details. They might ask you why you did this and you could explain that your work permit is expiring plus you need to switch employer and there isn't enough time.

If it helps to know, i have done that - though my circumstances were more complex than yours. I don't have a CSQ but i wasn't applying for an open work permit either. I was applying for an LMIA exempt role.

I believe CBSA and CIC manuals specifically document this in some clauses. I know because in my case the employment's lawyer prepared my file containing those clauses and a copy was attached in my file.
